  • Inflation Update Indonesia: May Inflation Rises Beyond Expectation

    Inflation in Indonesia accelerated higher than expected in May 2015. Based on the latest data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), announced today, Indonesia’s consumer price index rose to 7.15 percent (y/y) in May, from 6.79 percent (y/y) in the preceding month. The primary reason for higher inflation is rebounding oil prices thus causing higher prices at fuel pumps. As fuel subsidies have been largely cut at the start of 2015, the recent rising global oil prices now cause serious inflationary pressures in Indonesia.

  • Indonesia Posts $1.1 Billion Trade Surplus in March 2015

    Statistics Indonesia (BPS) announced on Wednesday (15/04) that Indonesia posted a USD $1.13 billion trade surplus in March 2015, the country’s fourth straight monthly trade surplus, and almost twice the size that analysts had forecast earlier. Despite the monthly trade surplus being good news, data also showed that both Indonesian exports and imports contracted. Exports were down 9.8 percent (y/y) to USD $13.71 billion in March, while imports fell 13.4 percent (y/y) to USD $12.58 billion.

  • Update Indonesia: Inflasi Naik, Kegiatan Manufaktur Turun

    Setelah mengalami dua bulan deflasi berturut-turut, Indonesia kembali mengalami kenaikan Indeks Harga Konsumen pada bulan Maret 2015. Menurut data Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), Indonesia mencatat kenaikan inflasi 0,17% pada basis month-to-month (m/m) pada bulan Maret. Hasil ini sejalan dengan proyeksi para analis. Pada basis year-on-year (y/y), inflasi Indonesia naik 6,38% dari bulan yang sama di tahun kemarin, sedikit lebih tinggi dari 6,29% (y/y) yang tercatat di bulan Februari. Inflasi inti negara meningkat menjadi 5,04% (y/y) di bulan Maret.

  • Indonesia Bukukan Surplus Perdagangan $738 Juta USD di Februari

    Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) mengumumkan pada hari Senin (16/03) bahwa Indonesia membukukan surplus perdagangan sebesar 738,3 juta dollar Amerika Serikat (AS) pada Februari 2015. Surplus perdagangan telah terjadi selama tiga bulan berturut-turut dan lebih besar dari prediksi bank sentral Indonesia (bank Indonesia) dan hasil polling Reuters yang memperkirakan bahwa suplus akan berada di kisaran 500-520 juta dollar AS. Surplus ini juga lebih besar dari surplus perdagangan di bulan pertama 2015 yang mencapai 709,4 juta dollar AS. Surplus di Februari terjadi terutama karena penurunan impor.

  • Kunjungan Turis ke Indonesia Turun di Januari Karena Tahun Baru Cina

    Jumlah kunjungan wisatawan mancanegara (wisman) ke Indonesia menurun 3.99% year-on-year (y/y) ke angka 723,039 turis di Januari 2015 menurut data Badan Pusat Statistik yang dirilis pada hari Senin (02/03). Alasan utama terjadinya penurunan ini adalah karena pada tahun 2015 tahun baru Imlek jatuh pada bulan Februari, sedangkan di tahun lalu even ini terjadi pada bulan Januari sehingga mendorong jumlah kunjungan wisman di bulan Januari 2014. Oleh karena itu, diharapkan bahwa jumlah kunjungan wisman di Februari akan meningkat tajam dan menetralisir penurunan di bulan sebelumnya.

  • Update Inflasi Indonesia: 0,36% Deflasi di Bulan Februari

    Pada 2 Maret 2015, Badan Pusat Statistik mengumumkan bahwa tingkat inflasi tahunan Indonesia menurun pada bulan Februari. Di bulan Februari, tingkat inflasi tahunan di negara dengan ekonomi terbesar di Asia Tenggara menurun menjadi 6,29% dari 6,96% pada bulan sebelumnya. Hal ini disebabkan karena turunnya harga bahan bakar dan harga bahan makanan (terutama cabai) kendati adanya tekanan inflasi yang dipicu oleh tingginya harga beras.     Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) announced on Monday (01/12) that the country’s inflation figure accelerated to 6.23 percent year-on-year (y/y) in November 2014 (from 6.23 percent y/y in the previous month) due to the impact of higher subsidized fuel prices implemented by the Indonesian government.     On Monday (03/11), several important macroeconomic data were released by statistics Indonesia. Firstly, inflation was relatively high in October at 0.47 percent month-on-month (m/m).     Statistics Indonesia (BPS) released various economic data today (01/10) - including inflation, the trade balance and manufacturing activity - that give a good indication about the state of the Indonesian economy. Although not all data was positive, market participants were content, evidenced by an appreciating rupiah exchange rate and rising Indonesian stocks. Based on the Bloomberg Dollar Index, the rupiah appreciated 0.43 percent to IDR 12,135 per US dollar, while the Jakarta Composite Index climbed 0.06 percent on Tuesday (01/10).
