    The Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), the investment service agency of the Indonesian government, is optimistic that investment realization in Indonesia (Southeast Asia’s largest economy) can surpass the level of IDR $100 trillion (USD $8.5 billion) in the second semester of 2014.   • Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board Optimistic on Investment in 2014

    The Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) is optimistic that investments (both foreign and domestic direct investments) in Indonesia can reach IDR 450 trillion (USD $38.1 billion) in 2014. This would be a 15 percentage point increase from investment realization in 2013. Head of BKPM Mahendra Siregar said that there is no evidence yet which indicates that investors are hesitant to invest due to the presidential election (scheduled for 9 July 2014).   • Revision of Indonesia's Negative Investment List to Attract Investment

    Chairman of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Mahendra Siregar said on Thursday (24/04) that Indonesia's Negative Investment List (Daftar Negatif Investasi), which stipulates which sectors in the Indonesian economy are open to foreign investment as well as the percentage of foreign ownership permitted, has been revised. The list was revised through a Presidential Decree earlier this week. The revision means that the limit of foreign ownership in several sectors will be raised.

  • BKPM: Japan Replaced Singapore as Biggest Investor in Indonesia in 2013

    Mahendra Siregar, Chairman of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) said that Japan has replaced Singapore as the largest investor in Indonesia. In 2013, Japan invested USD $4.7 billion in Southeast Asia's largest economy, particularly in the automotive sector due to the sector's promising outlook as demand for cars among Indonesia's expanding middle class grows strongly. Singapore, which was the largest investor in Indonesia between 2010 and 2012, fell to second place with USD $4.6 billion worth of investments.

  • Realized Investment in Indonesia in 2013 Will Exceed Target of the BKPM

    Head of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Mahendra Siregar, is optimistic that total realized investments in Indonesia will exceed the target that is set for this year. The BKPM, a government institution, aims for investments worth of IDR 390 trillion (USD $32.5 billion) in 2013 and IDR 470 trillion (USD $39.2 billion) in 2014. Siregar is optimistic because many investors, particularly from Japan and the USA, are committed to engage in business expansion at the end of this year as well as next year.

  • Indonesian Government Planning to Revise the Negative Investment List

    The Indonesian government is in the process of revising the country's Negative Investment List (the list that states which sectors of the economy are closed to foreign investment). Head of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Mahendra Siregar, said that a number of (sub) sectors, previously closed to foreign investment, will be opened up this year. These sectors include telecommunication, financial institutions, pharmaceuticals, tourism, airport and seaport transportation services and management, healthcare, and advertising.

    The Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) expects that investments in the second quarter of 2013 will grow by 25 percent to IDR 96.13 trillion (USD $9.6 billion) compared to Q2-2012.   • Investment in Indonesia: 59 Investors Used BKPM's 3-Hour Licensing Service

    According to the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), the government agency that provides investment services and forms the primary interface between the Indonesian government and businesses, it has assisted 59 companies through the three-hour licensing service that was started on 11 January 2016. Originally, this service was only available to big investors who either invest at least IDR 100 billion (approx. USD $7.5 million) or generate 1,000 new job positions for Indonesian workers. However, a Presidential Instruction also opened this special service to investment in four infrastructure-related sectors.

  • Domestic & Foreign Investment in Indonesia on the Rise in Q1-2015

    Investment realization in Indonesia in the first quarter of 2015 totaled IDR 124.6 trillion (USD $9.7 billion), up 16.9 percent from the same quarter last year. Domestic direct investment climbed 22.8 percent (y/y) to IDR 42.5 trillion, while foreign direct investment (FDI) rose 14 percent (y/y) to IDR 82.1 trillion in Q1-2015.     The Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) announced that foreign and domestic direct investment realization in Indonesia totalled IDR 463.1 trillion (USD $37 billion) in 2014, a 16.2 percent increase from the previous year and exceeding the target that was set previously.   • Growth Pace of Foreign Direct Investment in Indonesia is Slowing

    The Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) announced that growth of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia has slowed in the first nine months of 2014. In the first three quarters Indonesia saw the influx of IDR 228.3 trillion (USD $18.7 billion) worth of FDI, a 14.6 percentage point increase year-on-year (y/y). However, this growth pace is much lower than the 21.3 percent point growth of FDIs in the first nine months of 2013. In US dollar terms the decline was even greater as the rupiah has been depreciating.

    The Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) announced on Thursday (24/04) that investment realization of both domestic and foreign direct investment have set a new record in the first quarter of 2014. Total investment realization in Q1-2014 stood at IDR 106.6 trillion (USD $9.4 billion), an increase of 14.6 percent compared to the same period in 2013 (IDR 93 trillion) and the third consecutive time that the quarterly figure exceeded the IDR 100 trillion mark.   • Indonesia Received Record Amount of Direct Investments in 2013

    On Tuesday (21/01), the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) announced that investments in Indonesia grew 27 percent to IDR 398.6 trillion (USD $33 billion) in 2013, thus exceeding the target that was set at the start of the year (IDR 390 trillion).   • Investment Growth in Indonesia Continues to Slow in Third Quarter 2013

    The Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) said that total realized investments in Indonesia in the third quarter of 2013 was recorded at IDR 100.5 trillion (USD $8.89 billion). Of this total figure, IDR 67.0 trillion (USD $5.93 billion) was accounted for by foreign direct investment (FDI), while the remainder (IDR 33.5 trillion) was classified as domestic direct investment (DDI). The total investment realization of IDR 100.5 trillion was the highest ever quarterly investment figure since the BKPM releases these quarterly results.

  • Domestic and Foreign Direct Investment in Indonesia Grows Strong in Q1-2013

    In Quarter I 2013 (January-March), total investment in Indonesia increased 30.6 percent to IDR 93.0 trillion (US $9.58 billion) compared to the same period in 2012 according to data from the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (Badan Koordinasi Penanaman Modal, abbreviated BKPM), a government institution. Of this total amount, about seventy percent is accounted for by foreign direct investment, while the remaining thirty percent constitutes domestic direct investment.
