Chief Economics Minister Darmin Nasution said investors can get income tax discounts of between 20 and 100 percent for a duration up to 25 years.     Asian stocks continue to rise on positive market sentiments on Wednesday (04/11). Earlier this week data signal that manufacturing activity continues to expand in the US and Europe, while in China it is stabilizing.   • Garuda Indonesia & PLN to Use Fixed Assets Revaluation Incentive

    After the government of Indonesia announced that, effective immediately, a tax incentive is offered to those companies that revalue their fixed assets (as part of the government's fifth stimulus package), both fully state-owned utility firm Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and partially state-owned airline Garuda Indonesia started to prepare proposals for asset revaluation. A revaluation would increase their equity, allowing them to obtain more loans for business expansion.

  • Stimulus Measures Indonesia: Tax Incentive Revaluation Fixed Assets

    Effective immediately, the government of Indonesia introduced a new tax incentive that makes it more attractive for companies to revalue their fixed assets. Previously, companies had to pay a ten percent tax on the company's fixed asset growth. As a result, companies tended to refrain from increasing the level of fixed assets resulting in limited tax revenue. The Indonesian Finance Ministry said that companies will only have to pay 3 percent tax on the increased amount, provided that they submit their proposals for fixed asset revaluation before the end of this year.

  • Third Policy Package Indonesia: Micro-Finance and Cheaper Diesel & Electricity

    On Wednesday evening (07/10), the Indonesian government unveiled the third (and last) installment of its economic policy package. This latest installment aims to boost the industrial sector by cutting the diesel price by IDR 200 to IDR 6,700 (USD $0.48) per liter and by giving a 30 percent discount on electricity tariffs for labor-intensive industries.     Both Morgan Stanley and Moody's Investors Service have cast some negative perceptions on the condition of the Indonesian economy.   • Most Asian Currencies Down against USD but Indonesian Rupiah Appreciates

    Although immediately plunging 0.33 percent to IDR 11,478 per US dollar after its opening on Monday (10/03), the Indonesian rupiah exchange rate had appreciated 0.57 percent to IDR 11,375 per US dollar by 14:00 local Jakarta time (Bloomberg Dollar Index). The rupiah's performance today is in sharp contrast with other Asian currencies. As US nonfarm payrolls increased more than expected and Chinese exports fell sharply (18.1 percent year-on-year) in February 2014, the US dollar appreciated against most Asian currencies.

  • Third Economic Policy Package Being Prepared by Indonesian Government

    Indonesian Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa said that the government is currently engaged in preparing a third economic policy package that aims to reduce the country's current account deficit. In August and December 2013, the government had already implemented two policy reform packages as Indonesia's wide current account deficit and high inflation in combination with the looming end of the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing program led to large capital outflows, thus resulting in sharp rupiah depreciation.
