  • Export Target of Indonesia's Fishery Sector Revised on Weak Demand

    The Indonesian government has revised its export target for fishery products in 2014 to USD $5.1 billion from USD $5.65 billion. This downward revision has been decided because several export markets, including the United States and Europe, still experience difficulties on their path towards economic recovery, thereby reducing demand for Indonesian fishery products. Although revised, the new target is still much higher than export realization in 2013 when USD $4.2 billion worth of fishery products were exported from Indonesia.

  • International Relations Indonesia-China: Illegal Fishing Case

    Indonesian Minister of Maritime and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti said Indonesia could raise the (illegal) fishing dispute between Indonesia and China - that occurred near the Natuna Islands in the South China Sea over the weekend - at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea if China's authorities fail to respect Indonesia’s sovereignty over its sea territory. Last Saturday (19/03) a Chinese ship (Kway Fey 10078) was spotted fishing illegally within Indonesia's Exclusive Economic Zone in the South China Sea. Its crew was arrested and ship confiscated. However, two armed Chinese coast guard ships arrived to intervene.

  • Successful IPO Dua Putra Utama Makmur on Indonesia Stock Exchange

    Shares of newly-listed Dua Putra Utama Makmur soared on Tuesday (08/12) at its debut on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). Shares of the fish processing firm, the 15th company to be welcomed on the IDX in 2015, climbed 50 percent to finish at IDR 825 per share. Dua Putra Utama Makmur offered 40 percent (1.67 billion new shares) of its total equity at a price of IDR 550 per share, hence raising IDR 918.5 billion (approx. USD $67 million).
