  • Macroeconomic Update Indonesia: Rupiah, GDP & Budget Deficit

    Agus Martowardojo, the governor of Indonesia's central bank (Bank Indonesia), provided some new forecasts with regard to Indonesia's economic growth and rupiah. On Tuesday (06/06) Martowardojo told at a parliamentary hearing that he expects the rupiah to depreciate modestly in 2018, while economic growth should accelerate. Meanwhile, Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said Indonesia's state budget deficit is estimated to widen slightly more-than-expected in 2017.

  • Business & Investment Climate of Indonesia: Improving Competitiveness

    Indonesia rose six positions in the 2017 edition of the IMD World Competitiveness ranking. In this edition Southeast Asia's largest economy was ranked 42nd. This is positive because it shows the government's reform agenda is having an impact by improving the investment and business climate. However, Indonesia remains ranked behind its regional peers the Philippines (41st), Thailand (27th), Malaysia (24th), and Singapore (3rd).

  • Modern Internasional - Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Deal Off Table

    Charoen Pokphand Indonesia, the largest producer of poultry feed, day old chicks and processed chickens in Indonesia, will not acquire convenience store (franchise) 7-Eleven from Modern Putra Indonesia, a subsidiary of Modern Internasional. On Monday (05/06) Modern Internasional said it had scrapped the deal while both parties had earlier signed a business acquisition agreement, in April 2017, regarding the sale of the 7-Eleven franchise for IDR 1 trillion (approx. $75.2 million).
