For the first time a product from Indonesia obtained the Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) status from the European Union (EU). The product is "Kopi Arabika Gayo", a coffee made from the high-quality arabica beans and is cultivated in the Gayo highlands of Indonesia's province of Aceh on the northern tip of Sumatra. This special status means the product will benefit from the same protection and market added-value compared to EU protected products.

The Indonesian government targets to see domestic steel production rise by 5 percent year-on-year (y/y) in 2017. Indonesian electrical transformer manufacturer Trafoindo Prima Perkasa is optimistic about its future business given Indonesia's accelerating economic growth, while the government is committed to its 35,000 MW power program. The company seeks to raise up to IDR 480 billion (approx. USD $36.1 million) from an initial public offering (IPO) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in June 2017. It plans to offer 1.2 billion shares at a price range between IDR 320 - 400 a piece (with a price-to-earnings ratio of 9 - 12 times). Bahana Sekuritas acts as underwriter.

After Standard & Poor's (S&P) assigned investment grade status to Indonesia's sovereign rating, hence boosting positive perceptions about the Indonesian economy, the government should use this momentum to encourage public and private investment to push macroeconomic growth to the targeted range of 5.4 - 6.1 percent year-on-year (y/y) in 2018.
