    Indonesia's Industry Ministry is eager to intensify cooperation with Switzerland. On Tuesday (02/08) Indonesian Industry Minister Airlangga Hartanto stated that the European nation selected Indonesia as a key priority country in terms of economic cooperation and partnerships in the industry sector. Indonesia is ranked fourth in terms of priority investment destinations in Asia for Switzerland's foreign direct investment (FDI). Both nations have had positive diplomatic relations that date back to 1952.

  • 12th World Islamic Economic Forum Opened in Indonesia's Jakarta

    The 12th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF), held in Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta between 2 - 4 August 2016, was opened today by Indonesian President Joko Widodo and newly appointed Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati. The WIEF brings together government leaders, industrial leaders, academic scholars, regional experts, professionals and corporate leaders to discuss opportunities for business partnerships in the Muslim world. The 12th WIEF, attended by some 2,500 delegates from 69 nations, carries the theme "Decentralizing Growth, Empowering Future Business".

  • Tourism Indonesia: Foreign Tourist Arrivals Rise 5.9% in H1-2016

    The number of foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia reached 5.29 million in the first half of 2016, up 5.9 percent (y/y) from the same period one year earlier. This implies that only 44 percent of the government's full-year target has been achieved so far. Indonesia's Tourism Ministry targets to welcome a total of 12 million foreign visitors in 2016. Meanwhile, according to the latest data from Indonesia's Statistics Agency (BPS), foreign visitor arrivals declined in June 2016, both on a monthly and annual basis.

  • Update Tax Amnesty Program of Indonesia: Results So Far?

    Although the peak of repatriated fund flows and tax declarations - in the context of Indonesia's tax amnesty program - are expected to occur in the months September and October 2016, there is room for concern whether the ambitious targets of the government can be achieved. Between the launch of the program on 18 July and 1 August 2016 the government only saw IDR 98.43 billion (approx. USD $7.6 million) of additional income from 464 tax payers, while it targets to collect a total of IDR 165 trillion (approx. USD $12.7 billion) within a nine-month period.
