    Although it proves difficult for Indonesian car manufacturers to export their output to overseas markets, reflected by the declining number of local car exporters (declining from eight in 2013 to five at the start of 2018), Indonesia's car shipments have been rising steadily over the past five years. However, in absolute terms the figure remains modest with 231,169 exported car units from Indonesia in full-year 2017.

    Indonesian President Joko Widodo threw his support behind Perry Warjiyo for the position of central bank governor in the 2018-2023 period. Over the weekend Widodo stated that Warjiyo is his sole nominee for the key function at the nation's central bank (Bank Indonesia). The five-year term of incumbent Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo will end in May 2018.

  • First in Asia; Indonesia Sells $1.25 Billion of Global Green Bonds

    The government of Indonesia raised USD $1.25 billion through the issuance of global "green" bonds, hence becoming the first Asian country to issue this type of bond. With the proceeds from the green bond the Indonesian government will fund projects that have positive environmental and/or climate benefits.
