• APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Gives Five Recommendations

    The APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), a permanent high-level business advisory group that is created by the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), has given five recommendations to the 21 member countries of the APEC. These recommendations involve regional economic integration, sustainable development, entrepreneurship as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs), an economic and banking forum, and lastly, a dialogue in the industry sector concerning scientific innovation.

  • Indonesia's Foreign Exchange Reserves Grow 2.8% in September 2013

    The central bank of Indonesia (Bank Indonesia) announced that Indonesia's foreign exchange reserves have increased slightly in September 2013. On 30 September, the reserves stood at USD $95.67 billion, a 2.88 percent increase from USD $92.99 billion one month earlier. The reserves in September are equivalent to 5.4 months of imports, or 5.2 months when servicing of government external debt is included. Recent US dollar demand for the import of oil is what put pressure on the reserves.

    Indonesia Investments has updated the company profile of United Tractors, Indonesia's largest heavy equipment distributor. Besides heavy equipment, the company is also engaged in mining contracting and coal mining. As reduced global demand for Indonesian commodities has reduced mining activity in Indonesia, United Tractors reported a fall in net profit of 25 percent (yoy) to IDR 2.3 trillion (USD $203.5 million) in the first six months of 2013. As such, the company is eagerly awaiting a rebound in global demand for Indonesia's commodities.

  • Indonesia´s Largest Herbal Medicine Producer SidoMuncul Plans IPO

    SidoMuncul Herbal, Indonesia´s largest herbal medicine producer, is expected to conduct an initial public offering (IPO) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in the fourth quarter of 2013. The company, established in 1951, is a fully-modernized herbal company that strives to produce and market products that support the people´s health and well-being. The company will release 20 percent of its shares on the IDX and targets to raise IDR 1.5 trillion (USD $130 million). Kresna Securities acts as underwriter for the IPO.
