What Do We Discuss in the Report?

The first story presented in the report is about the disastrous floods and landslides in Sumatra that took a death toll, and caused widespread damage in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra. One particular matter that deserves attention is how people need to prepare for future natural disasters.

Another story involves the bond market. Recently, we have read various stories in Indonesian media about foreign capital outflows from Indonesia's stock and bond markets. This article zooms in on these developments.

Thirdly, we present an analysis of Indonesia's upstream coffee sector, discussing various topics ranging from coffee plantations and production to Indonesia's coffee trade. Of course, this analysis starts with the global coffee sector and market, as well as global coffee prices.

As usual, we also present analyses of the latest macroeconomic data of Indonesia, including inflation, retail sales, consumer confidence, car sales and credit growth.

Another interesting story is the United Nations' claim that Jakarta has become "the world's most populous city" with 42 million residents. When reading this headline, we instantly wondered what definition the United Nations used to come up with this claim. In our article we zoom in on the United Nations' report and also focus on the impact of urbanization on social and economic development of Indonesia.
