• Freeport Indonesia: Copper Export Ceased & another Fatal Accident

    Today, Freeport Indonesia and the Indonesian government will continue negotiations regarding the miner’s request to export 575,000 tons of copper over the next six months. Freeport’s previous export permit expired on 25 July and as the local unit of US mining giant Freeport McMoRan has not yet met demands of the government it failed to get an extension for copper concentrate exports. As a result, shares of parent company Freeport McMoran Inc. tumbled 9.90 percent on the New York Stock Exchange on Friday (24/07).

  • Indonesia’s Higher Import Duties Create Additional Pressure on Stocks

    Indonesia’s decision to raise import tariffs for food, cars, clothes as well as various other consumer goods put additional downward pressure on Indonesian stocks on the last trading day of the week (24/07). Those listed companies (retailers) that rely on imported goods saw their shares tumble as a consequence of the higher import tariffs. The Indonesian Finance Ministry raised import duties for consumer goods between 10 and 150 percent (depending on product) in a bid to boost the country’s consumer goods industry and curtail imports.

  • Remarkable News: AS Roma Football Players Denied Entry into Indonesia

    Italian football club AS Roma is frustrated at Indonesian immigration officials after five players were not allowed to enter Indonesia at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Friday (24/07). AS Roma is on a trip to Indonesia (and Australia) as part of the club’s pre-season tour. On Saturday (25/07), the squad takes part in the AS Roma Indonesia Day 2015 in Jakarta, which includes a friendly soccer match. It has not been published why the five AS Roma players were not welcome to enter Indonesian territory.
