• Cocoa Bean Production Indonesia to Recover in 2017, Exports Slide

    Indonesia's cocoa bean production is expected to rebound to 375,000 metric tons in 2017 provided weather conditions are conducive. In 2016 cocoa bean output is estimated to fall 7 percent due to weather conditions that harmed the cocoa trees. Zulhefi Sikumbang, Chairman of the Indonesian Cocoa Association (Askindo), said the El Nino (which brought droughts to Southeast Asia) and the subsequent La Nina (which brings wetter-than-usual weather conditions) are reason why Indonesia will only produce around 350,000 tons of cocoa in 2016.

  • Moody's Positive about Performance Indonesian Corporations in 2017

    Moody's Investors Services, one of the big three credit global rating agencies, expects to see Indonesian companies posting steadily growing corporate earnings in 2017. This projection is supported by Indonesia's accelerating economic growth. After experiencing an economic slowdown in the years 2011-2015, the Indonesian economy is expected to grow 5.2 percent year-on-year (y/y) in 2017, improving from an estimated 5.0 percent (y/y) growth in 2016 and a 4.8 percent (y/y) growth realization in 2015.

  • Car Sales Indonesia in 2016 May Achieve Gaikindo's Target

    Indonesia's car sales rose 3.7 percent year-on-year (y/y) to 974,972 vehicles in the first 11 months of 2016, improving from 940,027 sold vehicles in the same period one year ago. Jongkie Sugiarto, Chairman of the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), said this year's rising car sales in Indonesia are primarily supported by the launch of various new vehicles. He added Gaikindo's 2016 car sales target of 1.05 million could still be achieved, provided December's car sales will be more than 75,000 units.

  • IPO News Indonesia: Gold Miner Agincourt Resources Plans IPO

    Indonesian gold miner Agincourt Resources plans to conduct an initial public offering (IPO) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in 2017. The gold miner operates the Martabe Gold Mine in North Sumatra through a Contract of Work. Agincourt Resources is for 61.4 percent owned by Australia-based EMR Capital, a private equity manager that is specialized in mining resources and has deep linkages to Asian markets. Although the IDX refrained from mentioning names, it confirmed that at least one miner will IPO in Indonesia in 2017.
