    The Indonesian government and Commission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR) agreed on several macroeconomic projections for the 2013 Revised State Budget (RAPBN-P 2013). The government requested a number of modifications to the 2013 State Budget as earlier assumptions, mentioned in the original 2013 State Budget, were not in line with the current economic conditions. Before reaching the agreement, fractions in the commission changed a number of proposed revisions of the government.

  • Internet in Indonesia: Indonesia's Growing Number of Internet Users

    The Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (Asosiasi Penyelenggara Jasa Internet Indonesia, abbreviated APJII) expects the number of Indonesian Internet users to increase between 20% and 30% to 80 million people at end 2013. With Indonesia's current population numbering about 240 million people, it means that Internet penetration will grow to 33.3%. This development means that both Internet services providers and the Indonesian government should provide supportive conditions to accommodate increased Internet usage.

  • Fraser Institute Survey: Indonesia's Mining Sector Needs Legal Certainty

    In a new survey, conducted by the Fraser Institute, that assesses the state of the investment climate in the mining sector in 2012-2013 in countries around the globe, Indonesia is ranked at number 96. Both tax and regulatory uncertainties in Indonesia's mining sector are cited as reasons for the low ranking of the country. As investments in the mining sector are capital intensive and long-term in nature, investors thus need a clear legal framework that is not susceptible to sudden changes due to political issues.
