  • Foreign Visitor Arrivals to Indonesia Increase 7.2% in Semester I-2013

    The number of foreign tourists that visited Indonesia in the first six months of 2013 grew 7.2 percent to 4.15 million compared to the same period in 2012. Elka Pangestu, minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, said that there has been a significant surge in visitors from Asia and the Middle East. Foreign visitor arrivals originating from the United Arab Emirates rose 91 percent, followed by Saudi Arabia (22.8 percent), China (19.2 percent), Egypt (17.1 percent) and Hong Kong (16 percent).

  • Small Increase in Number of Foreign Tourists Visiting Indonesia in April

    In April 2013, more than 646 thousand foreign visitors entered Indonesia. This number is a 3.20 percent increase compared to the same month last year. As usual, the three busiest ports of arrival were Ngurah Rai on the island of Bali (a highly popular tourist destination), Soekarno-Hatta just outside Indonesia's capital city Jakarta, and Hang Nadim Airport on the island of Batam (an important industrial zone close to Singapore). These data were presented by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) on Monday (03/06).

  • Number of Foreign Tourists in Indonesia Rises to 2 Million in Q1-2013

    According to data from Statistics Indonesia (Badan Pusat Statistik), Indonesia was visited by over 725 thousand foreign visitors in March 2013, up 10.1 percent compared to the same month last year. The Indonesian government has set the ambitious target of welcoming a total of nine million foreign tourists in 2013. In 2014, it wants at least 10 million foreigners to visit Indonesia. The government expects these increases to originate mainly from the Asia-Pacific region itself.

  • Banking in Foreign Currencies for Expats in Indonesia Made Easier

    Soon it will be easier for foreigners (expats) to have a foreign currency bank account (non-rupiah) in Indonesia. Muliaman D. Hadad, Chairman of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), stated it is bound to issue a new regulation that allows for easier banking in foreign currencies in Indonesia. This regulation is made in an effort to raise the country’s foreign exchange reserves and support the ailing rupiah.

    Baru-baru ini Presiden menerbitkan Peraturan Presiden No. 69 Tahun 2015 tentang Bebas Visa Kunjungan (Peraturan Visa Kunjungan). Sebelum penerbitan Peraturan Visa Kunjungan, orang asing diwajibkan untuk memiliki sebuah Visa Kunjungan sebelum memasuki Indonesia. Di bawah peraturan baru ini, orang asing dibebaskan dari kewajiban ini. Peraturan Visa Kunjungan adalah usaha dari Pemerintah Indonesia untuk mendongkrak industri pariwisata dan meningkatkan jumlah wisatawan asing di Indonesia. Peraturan Visa Kunjungan mulai berlaku sejak 10 Juni 2015.

  • Tourism in Indonesia: Strong Growth Visitor Arrivals on Bali

    A total of 1,555,609 foreign tourists have visited the island of Bali, the most popular tourist destination in Indonesia, in the first five months of 2015, an 11.3 percentage point growth from the same period last year. Given that the number of foreign tourists usually peaks in the period June-September it is most likely that the government’s target of welcoming 4 million foreign tourists on Bali in 2015 will be achieved, or exceeded. Most tourists that visit Bali originate from Australia, China and Japan.

    The total number of foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia in 2014 was 9.44 million, up 7.19 percent from the preceding year, meaning that the government target of welcoming 9.3 million foreign tourists last year was achieved.
