    According to Millward Brown, the British multinational market research firm, Bank Central Asia (BCA) maintained on top of the ranking in terms of most valuable brands in Indonesia. It is the third consecutive year BCA tops the ranking.

    The big Indonesian banks that are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) have seen their shares surge so far in 2017. Moreover, their share performance is expected to retain this momentum in the second half of 2017. Among the big banks Bank Danamon Indonesia is leading the race. Its shares have surged 34.77 percent so far this year, followed by Bank Rakyat Indonesia (+27.62 percent), Bank Negara Indonesia (+26.70 percent), Bank Mandiri (+16.85 percent), and Bank Central Asia (+18.39 percent).

  • Bank Central Asia Now Largest Company on Indonesia Stock Exchange

    Bank Central Asia (BCA) is now the the biggest company in terms of market capitalization on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). At the end of trading on Tuesday (09/05) the company's market cap stood at IDR 443.8 trillion (approx. USD $33.4 billion), replacing cigarette manufacturer HM Sampoerna with its market cap at IDR 440.8 trillion. BCA, part of the Djarum Group, is the second-largest bank in Indonesia in terms of assets.

    After having experienced overall weakening corporate earnings in 2015, Indonesia's largest companies saw rising net profit in full-year 2016 (in line with Indonesia's accelerating macroeconomic expansion last year). Of the ten biggest Indonesian companies (biggest in terms of largest market capitalization on the Indonesia Stock Exchange) only cigarette manufacturer Gudang Garam is yet to release its full-year 2016 financial results. The combined results of the other nine showed a marked improvement from the situation one year earlier.

  • Operational Costs Major Indonesian Banks Rise in 2016

    Even though Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK) has been eager to encourage local banks to raise efficiency, banks' ratio of operating expenses to operating income (ROEOI) has in fact risen. For example, the ROEOI of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) rose 406 basis points from 68.04 percent in March 2015 to 72.10 percent in March 2016. BRI's Finance Director Haru Koesmahargyo said the bank's higher ROEOI is caused by the bank's rising non-performing loan (NPL) ratio. In Q1-2016 BRI's NPL ratio rose 20 basis points to 2.22 percent.

    In 2016 listed companies on the Indonesia Stock Exchange have a more expansive attitude compared to the preceding year, reflected by plans to raise capital expenditure.     Despite foreign investors recording a net buy on the Jakarta Composite Index on Thursday (31/10), a depreciating rupiah as well as falling stock indices across Asia made investors concerned. The company has been the top company in Indonesia since March 2013 when it replaced Astra International, Indonesia's largest diversified conglomerate, on the top spot. Astra had been Indonesia's largest company since 2010. Currently, the third-largest company in terms of market capitalization is Unilever Indonesia. Unilever, which is Indonesia’s largest consumer goods producer, jumped four places in the ranking since late 2012.
