It has been a while since we last covered Indonesia’s logistics sector, and so it is time for a new analysis on this topic. This is particularly relevant because the World Bank recently released a new Logistics Performance Index report (July 2023).
In July 2023 we saw a relatively modest trade surplus for Indonesia at USD $1.31 billion, down heavily from USD $3.45 billion in the previous month when it was the weak import performance that allowed Southeast Asia’s largest economy to enjoy a wide trade surplus.
In line with our forecast, Indonesia recorded mild deflation in August 2023. Based on the latest data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Indonesian deflation was recorded at 0.02 percent month-on-month (m/m) in August 2023. But because deflation was milder than last year, Indonesia’s annual inflation accelerated to 3.27 percent (y/y).
