On 15 May 2023 Indonesia’s Statistical Agency (BPS) released the latest trade data of Indonesia. As expected, we saw a heavy decline in Indonesia’s export and import performance in April 2023. But, because imports plunged heavier than exports, it also meant Indonesia could enjoy a comfortable USD $3.94 billion trade surplus.
On 21 April 2023, just before the Idul Fitri celebrations started, the Chairwoman of Indonesia’s biggest political party (PDI-P), Megawati Soekarnoputri, announced that she decided to throw her support behind Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.
Typically, the Ramadan month and Idul Fitri week is a period of elevated inflation as people consume and travel more than usual amid the festivities. This year, however, inflationary pressures were remarkably low. According to the latest data of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), inflation reached 0.33 percent month-on-month in April 2023.
