Jumlah ruang kantor kosong di distrik pusat bisnis (central business district/CBD) Jakarta telah bertumbuh karena penawaran melebihi permintaan, sedangkan aktivitas bisnis di Indonesia telah menurun karena perlambatan ekonomi yang berlanjut di negara dengan ekonomi terbesar di Asia Tenggara ini. Sejak 2011, pertumbuhan Produk Domestik Bruto (PDB) Indonesia telah melambat karena pertumbuhan global yang lamban dan rendahnya harga-harga komoditi. Menurut informasi dari Savills Consultants Indonesia, unit dari penyedia jasa real estate global Savills Plc yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek London, persentase ruang kantor kosong di Jakarta bertumbuh dari 4,8% di 2014 menjadi 8,4% di pertengahan 2015.

Global real estate services firm Jones Lang LaSalle expects condominium sales in Indonesia to post a record-breaking figure in 2014, particularly supported by the current trend in Jakarta (Indonesia’s capital city) where people continue to shift to apartment living instead of detached or attached single-unit housing. Anton Sitorus, head of research at Jones Lang LaSalle, said that despite the weaker outlook for Indonesia’s property market, both developers and buyers have shown increased interest in developing and buying property.

Business players in Indonesia's property sector are not happy with the government's intention to collect more tax from the sector in 2014 and onwards. The property sector has been one of the fastest growing sectors in Indonesia's economy in recent years as demand for property has surged significantly among Indonesia's expanding middle class, resulting in massive profit numbers for Indonesian property companies.
