    A non-ministerial agency in Indonesia advises the government to open the cinema industry to foreign investment in an effort to boost the local movie industry while encouraging the arrival of more foreign direct investment (FDI) into Indonesia, hence boosting sluggish economic growth in Southeast Asia's largest economy. Currently, FDI in the domestic movie industry is not allowed by a Presidential Regulation issued in 2014. According to this regulation, companies that produce, distribute, or promote movies as well as movie theaters or cinemas have to be fully Indonesian-owned.

  • Graha Layar Prima Conducts IPO on the Indonesia Stock Exchange

    According to the prospectus that was published on Monday (17/03), Graha Layar Prima will offer 140 million new shares, or 46.11 percent of the company's enlarged capital, to investors in an initial public offering (IPO) on the Indonesia stock exchange (IDX). Graha Layar Prima operates a cinema chain (known as Blitzmegaplex) that is present in several big Indonesian cities, including Jakarta, Bandung, Bekasi, Tangerang and Balikpapan. Funds that are gained through the IPO will all be used for the establishment of seven new cinemas.

    Same as last year's result, the Indonesia Stock Exchange expects 30 Indonesian companies to conduct an initial public offering (IPO) in 2014. Ito Warsito, Director of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), said that 15 companies are targeted to become listed on the exchange in the first half of 2014. In January 2014, Link Net, Bank Panin Syariah, Bank Ina Perdana as well as Asuransi Mitra Maparya are expected to become listed companies as they have already been granted approval for this corporate action.
