  • Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) Launched Indonesia’s First Floating Bank

    After having opened its first branch in Singapore, Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), one of the leading commercial lenders in Indonesia, has now launched Indonesia’s first ever floating bank, named Teras BRI Kapal, in a bid to make banking services more accessible to people residing in the country’s remote islands or coastal areas. This first floating branch will serve the banking needs of residents in the Thousand Islands regency off the coast of Jakarta. In the future BRI plans to send boats to other remote areas.

  • Rabobank Group Injects Capital into Rabobank Indonesia

    The Rabobank Group, a Dutch multinational banking and financial services company with its headquarters in Utrecht, has injected USD $35 million worth of capital into its Indonesian subsidiary Rabobank Indonesia. Martyn Schouten, President Director at Rabobank Indonesia, said that the capital injection is carried out to support Rabobank Indonesia’s business expansion in Southeast Asia’s largest economy. He added that the Indonesian unit will play an increasingly important role in international business of the Rabobank Group.

  • Fitch Ratings: Systemic Risks in Indonesian Banking System Declined

    Global credit rating agency Fitch Ratings expects slowing credit growth in Indonesia to reduce systemic risks in the country’s banking sector. In a report entitled Macro-Prudential Risk Monitor, which was released on 3 March 2015, it was mentioned that the macro-prudential risk indicator (MPI) for Indonesia was lowered from '3' (high risk) to '2' (moderate risk). Primary reason for this risk cut was the slowdown in the country's real credit expansion to below 5 percent in 2014 (from a peak of almost 20 percent in 2011).

  • Sektor Perbankan Indonesia Menjadi Kurang Terbuka untuk Investasi Asing

    Komisi XI DPR yang membidangi sektor perbankan nasional akan segera mengusulkan rancangan baru undang-undang yang membatasi kepemilikan asing di bank-bank Indonesia menjadi 40 persen (dari 99 persen saat ini). Bank yang sekarang dimiliki oleh pihak asing akan diberi waktu 10 tahun mendivestasikan sahamnya setelah rancangan undang-undang diloloskan menjadi undang-undang (konon rancangan sebelumnya memberikan jangka waktu pengalihan selama lima tahun untuk divestasi wajib tersebut).

  • Profit of Indonesian Banks Expected to Grow Double-Digit Again in 2014

    Moody's Investors Service, one of the big three global credit rating firms, predicts that profit in Indonesia's banking sector remains stable due to strong financial fundamentals. In its report "Indonesia Banking System Outlook", which discusses Indonesian banks' creditworthiness over the next 12 to 18 months, Moody's assesses that - despite an economic slowdown having reduced GDP growth to 5.78 percent in 2013 and puts some pressure on asset quality - high profitability and strong capital levels will continue into 2014.
