Salah satu paket stimulus ekonomi selanjutnya dari Pemerintah Indonesia akan berfokus pada meningkatkan produksi dalam negeri bahan baku untuk obat-obatan dan perangkat medis. Saat ini, industri tersebut masih sangat tergantung pada impor bahan baku. Diperkirakan bahwa sekitar 90% dari bahan baku/dasar untuk pembuatan obat-obatan dan perangkat medis perlu diimpor dari luar negeri sehingga menyebabkan tekanan tambahan pada neraca pembayaran Indonesia.

Indonesia's Ministry of Industry is optimistic that the country's manufacturing industry will grow 5.7 percent (year-on-year) in 2016, up from the estimated 5.3 percent growth pace this year. Indonesian Minister Saleh Husin said this optimism is based on higher domestic direct investment. Domestic investment realization in Indonesia's industry sector rose 7.45 percent (y/y) to IDR 20.1 trillion (approx. USD $1.5 billion) in the third quarter of 2015 from IDR 18.7 trillion in the same quarter last year. Foreign direct investment (FDI) into Indonesia's industry sector stood at USD $3.15 billion in Q3-2015.

Indonesian Industry Minister Saleh Husin inaugurated the new USD $60 million shoe factory of Changshin Reksa Jaya in Garut (West Java) which will produce Nike branded shoes. The shoe factory has an annual production capacity of 15 million pairs and will provide employment to 5,500 people. Reportedly, all of the shoes produced at this plant will be exported to Europe, USA, and other parts of Asia. Minister Husin stated that the new factory is highly appreciated as it will boost the country’s non-oil & gas exports.
