The ceramics industry is an important one for the Indonesian economy, and is one that has significant potential as per capita ceramic consumption is still low in Indonesia. Due to widespread (near) poverty in society, there is ample room for future growth of ceramic tiles (for walls and floors), porcelain, stoneware, bricks and more.
The long Idul Fitri holiday (that ends on 7 April 2025) somewhat disrupts our access to Indonesia’s macroeconomic data as much of the private and public sector is closed during this holiday (hence do not release any data during this period).
As expected, Indonesian consumer prices rebounded in March 2025 after Southeast Asia’s largest economy had experienced two straight months of significant deflation in January and February 2025 (see table 1).

And so, it was the first time investors could respond to global turmoil that occured after US President Donald Trump announced steep import tariffs for goods shipped into the United States (feared to trigger a global trade war and global economic recession).
