• Indonesian Rupiah Exchange Rate Update: Down 0.20% on Oil Concerns

    The Indonesian rupiah exchange rate had depreciated 0.20 percent to IDR 11,819 per US dollar by 15:30pm local Jakarta time based on the Bloomberg Dollar Index. This performance is in line with the performance of other emerging currencies in Asia, which all tend to weaken against today’s strengthening US dollar. One of the factors that pressures on the rupiah is the geopolitical tensions in Iraq which have resulted in a rising oil price (last week the oil price rose by 4.5 percent).

  • Influence of FIFA World Cup Football Brazil 2014 on Indonesian Exports

    The FIFA World Cup 2014, the world’s most prestigious football tournament (currently taking place in Brazil), boosts the textile and textile products industry of Indonesia. Local Indonesian companies have had to deal with a large increase of orders, particularly for apparel products. In the first six months of 2014, Indonesian exports of apparel products are expected to rise 15 percent to USD $3.5 billion. Between 10 and 15 percent of this total value involves exports of football jerseys of those teams that compete in the FIFA World Cup.

  • Batavia Prosperindo Internasional’s IPO on the Indonesia Stock Exchange

    Batavia Prosperindo Internasional, an Indonesian business and management consultancy services firm, set its share price in the range of IDR 450 to IDR 500 (roughly USD $0.04) for its initial public offering (IPO) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (this price range is in line with the company’s price to earnings ratio at between 8.2 to 9.2 times). Through this corporate action the company will release 29.18 percent of its enlarged capital. General Director Rudi Setiadi said that the company intends to offer 150 million shares to the public.
