Political parties - or coalitions of political parties - need to register their presidential and vice presidential candidates at the General Elections Commission (KPU) before Friday evening (10/08).

If indeed Subianto selected Uno, then the question is whether Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY)'s Democrat Party (PD) will continue to back Subianto in next year's election. Earlier, SBY publicly announced to throw his support behind Subianto, while stating that he would leave the decision for vice presidential candidate up to Subianto. However, it is widely assumed that PD wants something big in return for its support, namely SBY's son Agus as vice-presidential candidate.

Indonesian news portal Detik.com reports that Subianto's first choice was Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan. However, he rejected the offer.

Meanwhile, incumbent President Joko Widodo, who will try to obtain a new five-year term, announced that he will visit the KPU on Friday morning (10/08) for the registration. It is assumed his vice-presidential candidate will be announced shortly after. According to inside information, Mahfud MD, the former chief justice of the Constitutional Court of Indonesia, will become Widodo's running mate.
