Imports of wheat into Indonesia only rose by 4 percent year-on-year (y/y) to 5.97 million tons in the first half of 2018. This very modest growth is below expectations. Moreover, it means that the trend of declining wheat imports into Indonesia (that started from 2016) continues. Subdued consumer purchasing power and the weak rupiah are blamed for these weak imports.

Indofood Sukses Makmur, one of Indonesia's leading food manufacturing companies, plans to build a new factory for the production of flour to increase capacity and sales of its Bogasari unit. Bogasari is the company's integrated flour milling unit. Franciscus Welirang, Director of Indofood Sukses Makmur, said the unit's flour mills are currently producing close to their maximum capacity, hence production capacity expansion is needed.

Indonesia's central bank, Bank Indonesia, expects deflation of about 0.9 percent in September 2013. Statistics Indonesia, on the other hand, believes there will be limited inflation this month. Both institutions agree, however, on a forecast of at least 9 percent of inflation over full-year 2013. The bank's September forecast is based on a survey that was conducted in the second week of September. This survey showed that food commodities and government administered prices eased.
