  • Bank Central Asia (BCA) Sees Solid Net Profit Growth in 2015

    Bank Central Asia (BCA), one of the largest banks in Indonesia, saw its net profit rise 9.3 percent year-on-year (y/y) to IDR 18 trillion (approx. USD $1.4 billion) in 2015, supported by strong loan growth and the relatively low cost of funds. Meanwhile, BCA's net interest income, the difference between interest earned and interest paid, grew 12 (y/y) to IDR 35.9 trillion (approx. USD $2.7 billion) and non-interest income, which includes fees such as deposit and transaction fees, rose 28.5 percent (y/y) to IDR 12 trillion (approx. USD $909 million).

    While other leading Indonesian banks are eager to expand business by opening branches in neighbouring countries, Bank Central Asia (BCA) stays focused on the domestic market. BCA, Indonesia’s largest private bank, is eyeing to acquire several smaller banks in Indonesia as part of its (inorganic) business growth model this year. BCA seeks smaller banks that have good financial performance, match with BCA’s business and are not too expensive (with a price to book value of between one and two times).

  • No Severe Impact Latest Indonesian Tax Scandal on Bank Central Asia

    The tax crime case which involves Bank Central Asia (BCA), Indonesia's largest lender by market value and the second-largest bank by assets, is not expected to have a significant impact on the performance of the shares of BCA. Earlier this week, Hadi Poernomo (Director General of taxation from 2002 to 2004) was questioned by Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on allegations of accepting bribes in exchange for tax exemptions - worth of IDR 375 billion (USD $32.8 million) - granted to BCA.
