  • 32 Indonesian Companies Fined, Found Guilty of Forming Beef Cartel

    Indonesia's Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) penalized 32 Indonesian cattle importer and beef feedlot companies with a combined IDR 107 billion (approx. USD $8.1 million) in fines on grounds of the practice of unfair competition. These 32 companies have been found guilty of forming a cartel with the aim of controlling local beef prices, curtailing beef imports, and curtailing the distribution of beef at the expense of the Indonesian consumer, particularly in the Greater Jakarta area.

  • Jalan Masih Panjang menuju Swasembada Daging Sapi untuk Indonesia

    Serikat Peternak Sapi dan Kerbau Indonesia (PPSKI) pesimistis bahwa Indonesia dapat mencapai swasembada daging sapi baik di 2016 maupun 2017 terlepas dari adanya pembaharuan dorongan Pemerintah Indonesia untuk swasembada dalam berbagai komoditi, termasuk daging sapi. Swasembada daging sapi didefinisikan oleh PPSKI sebagai kebutuhan untuk mengimpor kurang dari 10% dari total kebutuhan daging sapi nasional. Namun, dengan permintaan daging sapi di Indonesia yang diperkirakan lebih dari 3,8 juta (sapi hidup) pada tahun 2016, sementara kantor berita negara Antara mengatakan Indonesia akan mengimpor hingga 600.000 ternak hidup tahun ini, ini menunjukkan bahwa hampir 16% dari kebutuhan daging sapi dalam negeri diimpor.

  • Indonesia's Partnerships with Denmark & the United Kingdom

    Indonesia's Agriculture Minister signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Denmark for investment into Indonesia's corn and sugar plantations as well as the cattle industry. Based on the words of Indonesian Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman it involves total Danish investment of at least IDR 2 trillion (approx. USD $152 million) for a period of five years. The deal involves the transfer of Danish agricultural technology, while Indonesia's part of the deal is to provide two million hectares of land. Meanwhile, Indonesia also plans to reaffirm its partnership with the UK in the creative economy industry.
