  • IPO & Bond News Indonesia: ABMA Land & Angkasa Pura I

    Indonesian property developer Anugerah Berkah Madani (ABMA Land) plans to set a lower target regarding its initial public offering (IPO) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in November 2016. Earlier, it planned to offer 3.33 billion shares, or 25 percent of its total outstanding capital stock. Currently, the company is reviewing its prospectus and intends to offer 1.76 billion, or 15 percent of its stock, to investors through the IPO. The indicative price will remain at the range of IDR 800 - 1,250 per share.

  • Indonesia’s 10-Year Bond Yield Climbs to a 5-Year High

    Based on data from the Inter Dealer Market Association, Indonesia’s ten-year sovereign bond yield climbed 31 basis points since 4 September 2015 to 9.24 percent, its highest level since 2010, on Friday morning (11/09) amid concern about the ailing rupiah. The rupiah has been under pressure as emerging market currencies have become unattractive ahead of a looming US interest rate hike and China’s recent decision to devalue its yuan (triggering concern about a currency war among Asia’s emerging currencies).

  • Moody’s Assigns (P)Baa3 Rating to Indonesia’s Samurai Bonds

    The Samurai (yen-denominated) bonds that are to be issued by the Indonesian government (through private placement) received a provisional rating of (P)Baa3 (stable outlook) from Moody’s Investors Service. Part of the Samurai bonds to be used by the government are without guarantees from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). It will be the first time for Indonesia to issue unguaranteed Samurai bonds since 1983 and thus the issuance serves as a test to measure Japanese investors’ confidence in Indonesian assets.

  • Indonesia to Sell Unguaranteed Samurai Bonds to Japanese Investors Soon

    The Finance Ministry of Indonesia started to market multi-tranche Samurai (yen-denominated) bonds, partially without guarantees from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), a Japanese public financial institution. It will be the first time that Indonesia issues unguaranteed Samurai bonds and thus the result will inform how confident Japanese investors are in Indonesia’s debt markets. Previously, all Samurai bonds issued by the Indonesian government were guaranteed by JBIC.

  • Bumi Resources Debt Settlement: CIC Takes 19% Stake in Kaltim Prima Coal

    China Investment Corporation (CIC), a sovereign wealth fund, now officially holds a 19 percent stake (worth USD $950 million) in Kaltim Prima Coal, subsidiary of Indonesia's largest coal miner (yet debt-ridden) Bumi Resources. This share transfer is part of Bumi Resources’ debt settlement program with CIC. After the share transfer, Bumi Resources still owes CIC about USD $1.03 billion. Another chunk of this debt will be settled through transferring 42 percent of the shares of another subsidiary, Bumi Resources Minerals, (worth USD $257 million) to CIC.

  • Bakrie Group's Bumi Resources: Shares Plunge on Bond Default Concern

    Shares of Bumi Resources, Indonesia’s largest coal miner by production volume, had plunged more than 13 percent by 16:00pm local Jakarta time on increased concern that a default is looming after the company failed to gain approval from bondholders to change the terms of its USD $375 million bonds due on 5 August. The Bakrie Group-controlled miner intended to extend the maturity of its bonds while lowering the coupon and conversion price. However, this plan was not approved in a bondholders’ meeting held in Singapore on 20 June 2014.

  • Rupiah Exchange Rate Indonesia: Why Did it Appreciate on Wednesday?

    The Indonesian rupiah exchange rate appreciated 0.76 percent to IDR 12,481 per US dollar on Wednesday (21/01) based on the Bloomberg Dollar Index. The performance of the rupiah was in line with most other emerging Asian currencies as Japan’s yen strengthened (against the US dollar) after Japan’s central bank announced to maintain an accommodative monetary policy in an attempt to boost inflation to two percent (y/y).     Moody's Investors Service, a global bond credit rating agency, assigned a definitive rating of Baa3 (stable outlook) to Indonesian government notes maturing in 2025 and 2045 (these notes are issued under the government’s global medium-term note program). Moody’s said in a press release on Tuesday (13/01) that the Baa3 government bond rating is supported by the country’s narrow fiscal deficits, low public indebtedness, healthy economic growth prospects, and the large size of Indonesia’s economy.

  • Indonesian Miner Bumi Resources almost Defaulted on $300 Million Bond

    Bumi Resources, a leading Indonesian coal mining company, came close to default on its USD $300 million November 2016 bond before paying an overdue coupon earlier this week. The company, which is in the hands of the controversial Bakrie family, is obliged to make two coupon payments per year but postponed payment due on 12 May 2014 in order to negotiate with its creditors and lenders. According to a statement of Bumi Resources Director Dileep Srivastava, the payment was done on 11 June 2014.
