    Mulai dari Januari 2017, para manufaktur smartphone 4G di Indonesia akan diwajibkan untuk menggunakan minimal 30% komponen lokal untuk pembuatan smartphone yang dijual secara domestik dan setidaknya 40% untuk pembangunan menara base transceiver stations (BTS). Pada awal tahun ini Pemerintah Indonesia telah menerbitkan draft peraturan mengenai hal ini dan minggu lalu draft tersebut telah ditandatangani oleh Menteri Informasi dan Komunikasi, Menteri Perdagangan, dan Menteri Perindustrian.   • Mixed Opinions about New Smartphone Regulation of Indonesia

    The recently unveiled Indonesian regulation that forces the country’s 4G smartphone and tablet manufacturers to use at least 40 percent locally-produced components in their cell-phone devices is a source of concern for tech companies such as Apple and Samsung that are eager to expand into Indonesia where smartphone penetration is still low. Moreover, the restriction may encourage smartphone smuggling in Southeast Asia’s largest economy. The new regulation will come into effect on 1 January 2017.

  • US Investments in Indonesia: American Companies Eager to Invest

    A total of 35 American companies are interested to invest a combined USD $61 billion in Indonesia over the next five years according to a survey conducted by the Paramadina Public Policy Institute, the American Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (AmCham Indonesia), the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo), and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia). These 35 US companies have already invested a total of USD $65 billion in Indonesia over the period 2004 to 2012.
