  • Indonesia’s Current Account Deficit Improves to 1.8% of GDP in Q1-2015

    The central bank (Bank Indonesia) announced on Friday (15/05) that Indonesia’s current account deficit narrowed to USD $3.8 billion, or, 1.8 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2015. Although this result is slightly higher than Bank Indonesia’s estimation (1.6 percent of GDP), it was lower than the current account deficits in Q4-2014 (2.6 percent of GDP) or Q1-2014 (1.9 percent). This positive performance was mainly caused by a narrowing deficit in the country’s oil & gas trade balance.

  • Indonesia’s Balance of Payments (BoP) Improves in Q3-2014

    The balance of payments (BoP) of Indonesia, the widest measure of Indonesia’s financial balance with the rest of the world (encompassing all transactions between the country’s residents and non-residents involving goods, services and income), hit a surplus of USD $6.5 billion in the third quarter of 2014, up from the USD $4.3 billion surplus in the previous quarter. The surplus of USD $13.7 billion in the Q3-2014 financial and capital account offset the USD $6.84 billion current account deficit.

  • Bank Indonesia: Balance of Payments Surplus at $4.5 billion in Q4-2016

    Bank Indonesia, the central bank of Indonesia, announced on Friday (10/02) that Indonesia's balance of payments surplus reached USD $4.5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2016 as the capital and financial accounts' surplus managed to (more than) compensate for the USD $1.8 billion current account deficit (or 0.8 percent of the country's gross domestic product/GDP) in the same quarter. Regarding full-year 2016, Indonesia posted a USD $12.1 billion surplus in its balance of payments, while its current account deficit was equivalent to 1.8 percent of GDP.

  • Update Indonesia's Q1-2016 Balance of Payments & Current Account

    Indonesia's balance of payments registered a deficit in the first quarter of 2016. Based on the latest data from Indonesia's central bank (Bank Indonesia), the deficit stood at USD $287 million in Q1-2016, down from a USD $1.3 billion surplus in the same quarter last year. The balance of payments deficit was the result of the nation's Q1-2016 capital and financial transaction surpluses (USD $4.17 billion) not being able to cover the current account deficit (CAD). Indonesia's Q1-2016 CAD shrank to USD $4.67 billion, or 2.14 percent of the nation's gross domestic product (GDP).

    Defisit transaksi berjalan Indonesia membaik menjadi 4,01 miliar dollar Amerika Serikat (AS), atau 1,86% dari produk domestik bruto (PDB), di kuartal ketiga tahun 2015. Bank Indonesia mengatakan bahwa perbaikan ini terutama disebabkan oleh neraca perdagangan non minyak & gas (migas). Kendati begitu, surplus transaksi modal dan keuangan Indonesia menurun menjadi 1,2 miliar dollar AS, menyebabkan defisit neraca pembayaran melebar menjadi 4,6 miliar dollar AS dari 2,9 miliar dollar AS di kuartal sebelumnya.
