The Indonesian government revised the price mechanism for property that can be bought by expats under the "right-of-use" category. Through Agrarian and Spatial Planning Affairs/National Land Agency (BPN) Regulation No. 29/2016 on Procedures for the Granting, Relinquishment and Assignment of Ownership Rights over Residential Homes or Housing by Foreigners Resident in Indonesia, it changed a couple of the minimum prices set on property (divided by region and the type of property).

Although the government of Indonesia recently decided to allow foreigners to buy landed houses and apartments in Indonesia (while setting a minimum value on property that foreigners are allowed to purchase), there are yet to surface reports of expats buying Indonesian property. Indonesia's Cabinet Secretary announced on Tuesday (12/01) that Indonesian President Joko Widodo signed a government regulation on 22 December 2015 (Government Regulation No. 103/2015 on House Ownership of Foreigners Residing in Indonesia) that allows foreigners to own landed houses in Indonesia for a period up to 80 years. This regulation is designed by the Indonesian government in order to provide more legal certainty to foreigners regarding property ownership.

Several days ago Indonesian Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro announced that the government may soon allow foreigners to own luxurious apartments in the bigger cities of Indonesia. His ministry is currently focused on revising Government Regulation No. 41/1996 on Housing for Foreigners Residing in Indonesia which still forbids foreigners (expats) owning any type of property in Indonesia. Indonesian property developers have warmly welcomed the new plan of the government as it brings more opportunities to the property sector.

However, the government set various requirements (including a minimum price). Dalam waktu dekat akan lebih mudah untuk membeli properti di Indonesia karena Bank Indonesia merencanakan untuk meringankan persyaratan uang muka untuk hipotek. Hari ini (22/05), Gubernur Bank Indonesia Agus Martowardojo mengatakan bahwa kewajiban uang muka untuk pembeli rumah pertama akan diturunkan dari 30% menjadi 20% dari nilai properti. Keringanan ini seharusnya memiliki dampak positif pada performa institusi-institusi finansial dan para developer properti karena permintaan untuk pinjaman dan properti diasumsikan akan bertumbuh.
