In April 2016 this project - involving the construction of 17 artificial islands for property and commercial development projects - was halted by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Netherlands-based leading dredging and marine expert Boskalis won a contract from Indonesia-based Ciputra Yasmin for the development of a land reclamation project off the coast of Makassar (South Sulawesi). Reportedly the contract is worth 80 million euro. Boskalis will develop five artificial islands offshore. These islands are part of the 'Centre Point of Indonesia' project which aims at creating quality land (through reclamation) and use this land for commercial and residential purposes. Activities are scheduled to start in the second quarter of the year. It will require two years to complete the project.

The decision was hardly a surprise. After Anies Baswedan was elected Governor of Jakarta in 2017 it was assumed that the end of the grand project was near.

For now, the decision means a complete stop to all activities related to the ambitious land reclamation project north of Jakarta.
The future of the ambitious land reclamation project in the bay of Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta is highly uncertain now Anies Baswedan has been elected as next Jakarta governor. Baswedan and his running mate Sandiago Uno have repeatedly expressed their objection to the reclamation project, while defeated Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) was a major supporter of the project.

The construction of these 17 artificial islands is a project that is separate from (but highly integrated with) the central government's National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) plan, better known as the Great Garuda.
The Indonesian Consumer Protection Foundation (YLKI) advises investors and consumers not to purchase property (yet) on the artificial islands that form part of the grand USD $40 billion land reclamation project (National Capital Integrated Coastal Development, abbreviated NCICD, also known as the Giant Sea Wall) off the coast of North Jakarta. Most property developers - including Agung Podomoro Land - have already started to advertise (and sell) property units on these islands despite these developers are yet to obtain all necessary permits.
