As had become clear after the quick count results, this pair only needed one round to win the race, an impressive performance. This was, in fact, so impressive that defeated candidates Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo became suspicious and challenged the election result at Jakarta’s Constitutional Court. And so, the story continues…

Prabowo-Gibran came out on top in 36 of the total 38 provinces in Indonesia, with the two remaining provinces (Aceh and West Sumatra) going to Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar. So, Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD failed to come out on top in any of the 38 provinces, which is quite remarkable. If we take a look at ‘foreign votes’ (namely Indonesians voting abroad) then Prabowo was also the most popular (winning in 66 foreign cities), followed by Ganjar (39 cities). Here. Anies performed worst by only winning in 22 foreign locations.



Defeated Candidates Challenge the Election Result

Just like the 2019 presidential election result required a decision from Indonesia’s Constitutional Court (when then-defeated candidate Prabowo refused to accept his defeat), we again need a decision from this court this time after defeated candidates Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo challenged the latest election result.
