  • Government of Indonesia to Issue USD Bonds in Early 2015

    The Indonesian government has mandated Citigroup, HSBC and the Standard Chartered Bank to arrange the issuance of US dollar-denominated sovereign bonds in January 2015. The government also considers to issue euro-denominated bonds next year. Previously it had been reported that the Indonesian government plans to issue samurai bonds and global sukuk (Islamic bonds) in the first quarter of 2015 (as this is considered a relatively stable period) before the US Federal Reserve hikes its key interest rate.

  • Currency Update: Japanese Yen Depreciates to Lowest Level in 7 Years

    After the currency of Japan (yen) had weakened to its lowest level in seven years against the US dollar on Tuesday (11/11), the currency rebounded today (12/11) as speculation spread that Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is not considering to dissolve parliament and to postpone a planned sales-tax increase. Japan’s currency had gained 0.4 percent to 115.31 per US dollar at 9:02 am London time according to Bloomberg data (yesterday it had touched a seven-year low at 116.10 per US dollar).

  • Another Small Gain for Indonesia's Main Stock Index (IHSG) on Tuesday

    Amid widespread profit taking, Indonesia's main stock index (IHSG) was able to post another day of limited growth on Tuesday (16/07). Asian stock indices, including the IHSG, were supported by rising American stock indices on Monday (15/07). Investors seem to be confident that Q2-2013 results of various Indonesian companies are positive and therefore engaged in stock trading although foreign investors were still mostly selling their Indonesian assets. At the end of today's trading day, the IHSG rose 0.18 percent to 4,644.04.
