  • Small Increase in Number of Foreign Tourists Visiting Indonesia in April

    In April 2013, more than 646 thousand foreign visitors entered Indonesia. This number is a 3.20 percent increase compared to the same month last year. As usual, the three busiest ports of arrival were Ngurah Rai on the island of Bali (a highly popular tourist destination), Soekarno-Hatta just outside Indonesia's capital city Jakarta, and Hang Nadim Airport on the island of Batam (an important industrial zone close to Singapore). These data were presented by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) on Monday (03/06).

  • Indonesia Experiences Deflation of 0.10 Percent in April

    In April 2013, Indonesia's inflation rate eased 0.10 percent month-on-month, or 5.57 percent year-on-year. According to Statistics Indonesia (Badan Pusat Statistik, abbreviated BPS) April's deflation was triggered by easing food and clothes prices. Food items that became cheaper last month included garlic, chili, and chicken meat. Particularly rice contributed to the country's deflation as the harvesting season in Indonesia has set in. Core inflation is 4.12 percent (YoY).

  • Indonesia's Trade Balance Reports Another Trade Deficit in April

    Indonesia's trade balance recorded another deficit in April 2013 as imports (USD $16.31 billion) exceeded exports (USD $14.70 billion). April's trade deficit, amounting to USD $1.62 billion, was mainly due to continued weak commodity exports in combination with strong oil, basic machinery and utensils imports. After five consecutive months of deficits up to February, Indonesia’s trade account reported a surplus of USD $330 million in March, but fell back into deficit in April. From January to April, Indonesia's trade deficit stands at USD $1.85 billion.
