On 23 November 2016 Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte will become the first Dutch prime minister to address Indonesian parliament. It is rare for foreign political leaders to speak to Indonesian parliament. Rutte's speech is part of a four-day Dutch trade mission program to Indonesia. Mark Rutte is accompanied by Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Minister Lilianne Ploumen, Infrastructure and the Environment Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen and Environment Minister Sharon Dijksma. In recent years the Netherlands and Indonesia have both been eager to enhance bilateral relations.

Until 19 March, a Belgian mission - led by Princess Astrid, accompanied by four ministers and 301 participants (including 127 company representatives) - visits Indonesia in an effort to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation between both nations and boost foreign direct investment from Belgium into Indonesia. According to the Belgian Embassy, the ongoing mission in Indonesia is the fifth - and largest ever - economic mission conducted by Belgium in Southeast Asia's largest economy. Belgium is the fifth-largest investor from the European Union (EU).

Bertrand van Ee, Chairman of International engineering and project management consultancy Royal HaskoningDHV joined the Netherlands Prime Minister Rutte, Minister Ploumen and Minister Dijksma on their trade mission to Indonesia from 20 to 22 November 2013. During this visit, TIRASA and Royal HaskoningDHV signed a Head of Cooperation Agreement with the intention to collaborate in developing a total of 100 MW of small scale hydropower plants in Indonesia in the next 5 years, starting with feasibility studies in the targeted regions.
