    The Indonesian government and US mining giant Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc are entering the final stage of the divestment process after both sides signed the Head of Agreement on Thursday (12/07). The agreement means that state-owned mining company Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Inalum) will obtain a 51.23 percent stake in Freeport Indonesia via a series of complex deals worth USD $3.85 billion.

  • Holding Company for Indonesia's State-Owned Miners Ready in Q1-2017

    The government of Indonesia is nearing completion of the forming of holding companies for state-owned enterprises that are active in the oil & gas and mining sectors. It now only requires signing by Indonesian President Joko Widodo. Last year Widodo approved plans to create five state holding companies in energy, mining, construction, housing, and financial services. Fully state-owned aluminium producer Inalum and energy company Pertamina will be the holding companies for activities in the mining and oil & gas sectors, respectively.

  • Signing of Nippon Asahan's Inalum Share Sale to Indonesian Government

    At the start of the week, Japan sold its 58.88 percent stake in Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) to the Indonesian government for a price of USD $556.7 million. At a ceremony held in Jakarta, witnessed by various Indonesian ministers and Japanese government officials, the agreement was signed. Talks about the sale of Japan's stake were difficult and lengthy, almost needing resolution by arbitration, due to disagreement about he value of Japan's stake. This then triggered concerns that Indonesia-Japan relations were in jeopardy.
