  • Manufacturing Industry Indonesia Expected to Grow 5.7% in 2016

    Indonesia's Ministry of Industry is optimistic that the country's manufacturing industry will grow 5.7 percent (year-on-year) in 2016, up from the estimated 5.3 percent growth pace this year. Indonesian Minister Saleh Husin said this optimism is based on higher domestic direct investment. Domestic investment realization in Indonesia's industry sector rose 7.45 percent (y/y) to IDR 20.1 trillion (approx. USD $1.5 billion) in the third quarter of 2015 from IDR 18.7 trillion in the same quarter last year. Foreign direct investment (FDI) into Indonesia's industry sector stood at USD $3.15 billion in Q3-2015.

  • Manufacturing PMI of Indonesia Hits New Record in May 2014

    Indonesia's HSBC Markit purchasing managers' index (PMI) reached its highest level ever at 52.4 in May 2014, up from 51.1 in April 2014, as new domestic orders rose (indicating an improvement in domestic activity). According to HSBC economist Su Sian Lim, the outcome may be evidence that the slowdown in domestic manufacturing is starting to bottom out. In the previous two months, the index indicated slowing manufacturing activity in Southeast Asia's largest economy although remained above the 50.0 level for nine straight months.

  • Exports of Indonesia's Automotive Sector Grow 10.4% in First Quarter 2014

    The national automotive industry of Indonesia recorded export growth of 10.4 percent in the first quarter of 2014 (year-on-year). Statistics Indonesia said that exports in the automotive industry (which includes automobiles and motorcycles) were worth USD $1.27 billion in the first three months of the year, compared to USD $1.15 billion in the same period in 2013. However, the automotive industry of Indonesia only contributes 3.49 percent to the country's total non-oil & gas exports.

  • Growth in Indonesia's Non-Oil & Gas Industry Outpaces GDP Growth

    The non-oil & gas industry of Indonesia grew 5.56 percent in the first quarter of 2014. Although general economic growth in Southeast Asia's largest economy has slowed to 5.21 percent in the first quarter, several industries such as the Food and Beverage Processing Industry, the Transportation Equipment Industry, Machinery & Equipment Industry, as well as Farming & Plantation-based Industries post strong growth. The Indonesian Industry Ministry targets a 6.5 percentage rate for the country's industrial sector in 2014.
