In fact, it is the most popular brand in Indonesia (not only of all instant noodle brands, but of all brands in Indonesia). Indofood Sukses Makmur said its Indomie sales rose ahead of Idul Fitri (the celebrations that mark the end of the Ramadan month), both domestic sales and export orders.
The latest survey conducted by Kantar Worldpanel, an international research firm that investigates consumers' purchasing behavior, confirms that Indomie remained the top brand in Indonesia (as it has been for - at least - the past five years). Indomie is Indonesia's most famous instant noodle brand, offering a rich amount of flavor variations to Indonesian consumers. Instant noodles are an important product for the Indonesian consumer because another instant noodle brand - Mie Sedaap - is also among the top three of favorite brands in Indonesia.
Indonesia is the world's second-largest consumer of instant noodles, after China. Based on the latest data from the World Instant Noodle Association (WINA), Indonesia consumed 13.2 billion packages of instant noodles in 2015, accounting for 13.5 percent of total worldwide instant noodle consumption. Instant noodles are very popular among the Indonesian population due to the affordable price, easy-to-prepare nature, and yummy taste of the noodles (although there have been many reports that claim that these food products are unhealthy).
Despite the slowing economy and weaker purchasing power in recent years, sales of instant noodles in Indonesia continue to rise. Although unhealthy, instant noodles are a highly popular meal in Indonesia due to its cheap price, tasty flavors, and easy-to-prepare nature. Instant noodle brands such as Indomie (produced by the Indofood Group) and Mie Sedaap (produced by the Wings Group) have become household favorites across the archipelago. Both are among the top five brands that are purchased most often by Indonesian households.
