  • Indonesia Inflation Update: Deflation of 0.02% Recorded in April 2014

    On Friday (02/05), Statistics Indonesia announced that Indonesia recorded deflation of 0.02 percent in April 2014. This outcome is in line with analysts' previous forecasts. The months April and May usually bring deflation or low inflation to Indonesia due to the traditional peak of the harvest season. The annual inflation rate of Indonesia has now eased to 7.25 percent (year-on-year) in April 2014, while calender year inflation declined slightly to 1.39 percent. Of the 82 Indonesian cities, 39 experienced deflation.

  • Newsflash: November Inflation 0.12%, Export Grows 6.87% in October

    Today (02/12), Statistics Indonesia (BPS) announced that Indonesian inflation was recorded at 0.12 percent in November 2013. Suryamin, Head of BPS, said that the price movements of basic needs, including rice and chili, were under control in November, while other components, such as groceries and clothing, in fact recorded deflation. Compared to the month November in previous years, the 0.12 inflation rate is limited. In November 2012, inflation was recorded at 0.34 percent. Indonesia's year-on-year inflation rate now stands at 8.37 percent.

  • Lower Foodstuffs and Clothes Prices; Indonesia's October Inflation 0.09%

    Inflation in October 2013 was recorded at 0.09%. This low inflation rate was mainly supported by easing food and clothes prices. The foodstuffs component in the basket recorded deflation of 0.34 percent, while clothes posted deflation of 0.56 percent. These details were presented by Suryamin, Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) on Friday (01/11). The 0.09 percent October inflation rate is low compared to past results in the same month with the notable exception of October 2011 when 0.12 percent of deflation was recorded.

  • Indonesia Experiences Deflation of 0.10 Percent in April

    In April 2013, Indonesia's inflation rate eased 0.10 percent month-on-month, or 5.57 percent year-on-year. According to Statistics Indonesia (Badan Pusat Statistik, abbreviated BPS) April's deflation was triggered by easing food and clothes prices. Food items that became cheaper last month included garlic, chili, and chicken meat. Particularly rice contributed to the country's deflation as the harvesting season in Indonesia has set in. Core inflation is 4.12 percent (YoY).
