What Do We Discuss in the Report?

The first story is about minimum wages. In November, provincial governors typically have to announce next year's minimum wages. This is always a complex matter with conflicting interests between business-owners and workers. In recent years, the government of Indonesia has been using formulas to come up with growth rates for minimum wages. However, Constitutional Court rulings have made matters even more complicated, leading to a delay in the announcement of the 2026 minimum wages.

Another interesting story is the United Nations' claim that Jakarta has become "the world's most populous city" with 42 million residents. When reading this headline, we instantly wondered what definition the United Nations used to come up with this claim. In our article we zoom in on the United Nations' report and also focus on the impact of urbanization on social and economic development of Indonesia.

As usual, we discuss a range of macroeconomic indicators (such as inflation, retail sales, consumer confidence, car/motorcycle sales, credit growth, and manufacturing activity) to assess the state of the Indonesian economy. What is interesting is that the majority of data show an improvement. This is positive for Q4-2025 economic growth.
