Visa & Immigration: Procedures for Changing the Home Address of Expats’ KITAS/KITAP
A foreigner who lives in Indonesia on a limited stay permit (KITAS) or a permanent stay permit (KITAP) must have his Indonesian home address registered at the local branch of Indonesia’s immigration office. However, it often happens that the foreigner moves to a different house or apartment before his/her KITAS or KITAP expires. It is important to notify the immigration office about this move. Based on Article 71 Act No. 6/2011 on Immigration, all changes in expatriates’ civil status, citizenship, occupation, guarantor, or address must be reported to the immigration office in an immediate period of time.

So Far in 2017, 562 Foreigners Were Denied Entry into Indonesia
A total of 562 foreigners have been refused entry into Indonesia at Indonesia's busiest airport, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (located just outside Jakarta) so far in 2017 (up to 18 December). Enang Syamsi, Head of Immigration Office (Kelas I Department) at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, said this is a lower figure compared to one year ago when 719 foreigners were denied access to Indonesia.

Remarkable News Indonesia: Football Stars Facing Immigration Trouble?
Former Chelsea football stars Michael Essien and Carlton Cole, who both played their first match in Indonesia's League One over the weekend, are facing some difficulty with Indonesian immigration. Essien and Cole, who are in the last phase of their careers, signed for Persib Bandung, one of the top football teams in Indonesia. However, based on media reports, Persib Bandung has not concluded the immigration process in time. As a result both players played their first match without having a work permit.

Shares in Asia (as well as US stock futures) are trading lower, while the US dollar is sliding on Monday (30/01) after US President Donald Trump announced to curb immigration into the USA. This move sparked wide criticism at home and abroad, while giving rise to uncertainty about future (unpredictable) US political and economic policies. Since Friday (27/01) refugees from seven predominantly Muslim countries - Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen - are banned (for 90 days) from entering the USA.

With the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) per 1 January 2016 - i.e. the community that is designed to allow the free flow of goods, services, investment, and skilled labor as well as the freer flow of capital among its ten member countries - there has been concern among part of the Indonesian population whether there could occur a massive inflow of foreign workers into Indonesia hence giving rise to more competition on the domestic labor market. This column zooms in on the free flow of labor under the AEC.

Remarkable News: AS Roma Football Players Denied Entry into Indonesia
Italian football club AS Roma is frustrated at Indonesian immigration officials after five players were not allowed to enter Indonesia at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Friday (24/07). AS Roma is on a trip to Indonesia (and Australia) as part of the club’s pre-season tour. On Saturday (25/07), the squad takes part in the AS Roma Indonesia Day 2015 in Jakarta, which includes a friendly soccer match. It has not been published why the five AS Roma players were not welcome to enter Indonesian territory.

Warga 45 Negara Dapat Fasilitas Bebas Visa Kunjungan Indonesia
Baru-baru ini Presiden menerbitkan Peraturan Presiden No. 69 Tahun 2015 tentang Bebas Visa Kunjungan (Peraturan Visa Kunjungan). Sebelum penerbitan Peraturan Visa Kunjungan, orang asing diwajibkan untuk memiliki sebuah Visa Kunjungan sebelum memasuki Indonesia. Di bawah peraturan baru ini, orang asing dibebaskan dari kewajiban ini. Peraturan Visa Kunjungan adalah usaha dari Pemerintah Indonesia untuk mendongkrak industri pariwisata dan meningkatkan jumlah wisatawan asing di Indonesia. Peraturan Visa Kunjungan mulai berlaku sejak 10 Juni 2015.
