    The Indonesian government said it will ban the use of satellites that have exceeded their life expectancy in order to avoid incidents such as happened with the Telkom-1 satellite.     Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), one of Indonesia's largest financial institutions, will accelerate the migration of its ATM network and operating units to BRIsat, the company's satellite that was launched on 20 June 2016.   • Bank Rakyat Indonesia's BRIsat Satellite to Launch Next Week

    State-controlled financial institution Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) is scheduled to launch its satellite - called BRIsat - at 03:30 am local Jakarta time on 9 June 2016 in Kourou (French Guiana). BRI President Asmawi Syam told reporters that the launch is a milestone, not only for BRI but for the global banking industry as BRI will become the first bank to operate its own communications satellite. In Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago, a satellite is more efficient than fiber optic. With the BRIsat the bank is able to reach (potential) customers in the remote areas.

  • PricewaterhouseCoopers: Indonesia Shows Slowest Growth of Pay TV in Asia

    Pay television (a subscription-based television service) in Indonesia shows the slowest growth among Asian countries according to research reported by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Growth of pay television in Indonesia only amounts to two percentage points per year, a number that is significantly lower than in the country's regional peers. Indonesia's pay TV penetration rate is currently about six percent, which translates to three million households.

    The Gods seemed not in favor of the BRIsat, the satellite of Indonesia's second-largest bank by assets Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI). The BRIsat was originally scheduled to be launched on 9 June 2016 (Indonesian timezone). However, due to technical problems and bad weather the launch had to be postponed three times. Finally, on early Sunday (20/06) the satellite was launched by Arianespace from the Guiana Space Center, Europe's Spaceport in Kourou (French Guiana), hence ushering in a new era for Indonesia's digital banking industry.

  • Telekomunikasi Indonesia to Launch Telkom-4 Satellite in 2018

    State-controlled Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Indonesia's largest telecommunication and network provider, plans to launch its Telkom-4 satellite in 2018 through its subsidiary TelkomMetra. The Telkom-4 satellite, which will replace the aging Telkom-1 satellite, is equipped with 49 transponders that will be capable of beaming 100 Gbps mobile broadband across Indonesia, India and Southeast Asia. The USD $200 million satellite is expected to have a life span of 15 years.
