    The central bank of Indonesia (Bank Indonesia) announced on Friday (12/02) that Indonesia's current account deficit widened to 2.39 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP), or USD $5.1 billion, in the fourth quarter of 2015 from a deficit of 1.94 percent of GDP (USD $4.2 billion) in the preceding quarter. This increase was due to a decline in the non-oil & gas trade balance surplus as non-oil & gas imports grew 7.5 percent (q/q) amid higher domestic demand amid accelerating economic growth in the last quarter of 2015.

  • Current Account & Balance of Payments of Indonesia Improved in 2014

    The central bank of Indonesia (Bank Indonesia) announced on Friday (13/02) that Indonesia’s current account deficit - the broadest measure of trade in goods and services - improved to 2.81 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), or USD $6.2 billion, in the fourth quarter of 2014 (from a revised 2.99 percent of GDP in the preceding quarter). The full-year 2014 deficit amounted to USD $26.2 billion, equivalent to 2.95 percent of GDP from a (revised) deficit of USD $29.1 billion (3.18 percent of GDP) in 2013.

  • Indonesia’s Balance of Payments (BoP) Improves in Q3-2014

    The balance of payments (BoP) of Indonesia, the widest measure of Indonesia’s financial balance with the rest of the world (encompassing all transactions between the country’s residents and non-residents involving goods, services and income), hit a surplus of USD $6.5 billion in the third quarter of 2014, up from the USD $4.3 billion surplus in the previous quarter. The surplus of USD $13.7 billion in the Q3-2014 financial and capital account offset the USD $6.84 billion current account deficit.
