This skytrain will enhance the connectivity between the three terminals at Indonesia's busiest airport.

  • Update 3rd Runway at Indonesia's Soekarno-Hatta Airport

    State-owned airport services company Angkasa Pura II, which operates airports in the western part of Indonesia, says construction of the third runway of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (located just outside Jakarta) will start in April 2017. This new runway, which requires about IDR 2 trillion (approx. USD $150 million) worth of investment, is expected to be ready for use in mid-2018. Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the country's main port of entrance, is target of an ambitious expansion and renovation program with the aim to boost competitiveness by raising the airport's passenger capacity and flight frequency.

  • Aviation Infrastructure Indonesia: Passenger Capacity Soekarno-Hatta Airport

    Passenger capacity at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Indonesia's busiest airport located just outside Jakarta, is targeted to reach 61 million (per year) by the end of 2017, up 84 percent from a passenger capacity of 33 million passengers currently. Passenger capacity at the airport will rise strongly after the full completion of construction of Terminal 3 as well as the renovations at Terminals 1 and 2. Although Terminal 3 opened in August 2016 construction will continue into 2017 when full passenger capacity (25 million per year) is expected to be reached.

  • Soekarno-Hatta International Airport's Terminal 3 Starts Operations

    On Tuesday (09/08), Terminal 3 of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, located just outside Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta, becomes operational. This IDR 7.7 trillion (approx. USD $588 million) terminal is designed to have the capacity to handle some 25 million passengers per year. In the first phase of the terminal's operations, national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will use it for its domestic flights (about 126 per day). Gradually, Garuda will serve international flights from this terminal, followed by international flights of other airlines.

  • Terminal 3 Ultimate at Indonesia's Soekarno-Hatta Airport Nearly Ready

    State-owned airport services company Angkasa Pura II that operates the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport located just outside Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta, says construction of the airport's third terminal is nearing completion. Angkasa Pura II is optimistic that the IDR 5.7 trillion (approx. USD $432 million) terminal will be ready for operations on 26 May 2016. Budi Karya Sumadi, General Director of Angkasa Pura II, said this terminal - called Terminal 3 Ultimate - will be used for international and domestic flights of Garuda Indonesia (which currently uses Terminal 2).

    Two international airlines will (temporarily) scrap flights to the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, located just outside Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta. French flag carrier Air France and Kuwait's national airline Kuwait Airways announced to stop flying to Indonesia's busiest airport starting from 28 March 2016. Reasons behind this decision are sluggish demand for flights to Jakarta, fleet rotation, and Garuda Indonesia's joining of the SkyTeam in March 2014.

    Italian football club AS Roma is frustrated at Indonesian immigration officials after five players were not allowed to enter Indonesia at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Friday (24/07). AS Roma is on a trip to Indonesia (and Australia) as part of the club’s pre-season tour. On Saturday (25/07), the squad takes part in the AS Roma Indonesia Day 2015 in Jakarta, which includes a friendly soccer match. It has not been published why the five AS Roma players were not welcome to enter Indonesian territory.

  • Garuda Indonesia Mungkin Cancel Penerbangan Langsung Jakarta & Amsterdam

    Maskapai penerbangan nasional Garuda Indonesia mungkin perlu menghentikan penerbangan langsung antara Jakarta dan Amsterdam (Belanda) karena landasan pesawat di Bandara Internasional Soekarno-Hatta tidak memenuhi persyaratan standar keamanan.     Jumlah kunjungan wisatawan mancanegara (wisman) ke Indonesia menurun 3.99% year-on-year (y/y) ke angka 723,039 turis di Januari 2015 menurut data Badan Pusat Statistik yang dirilis pada hari Senin (02/03). Alasan utama terjadinya penurunan ini adalah karena pada tahun 2015 tahun baru Imlek jatuh pada bulan Februari, sedangkan di tahun lalu even ini terjadi pada bulan Januari sehingga mendorong jumlah kunjungan wisman di bulan Januari 2014. Oleh karena itu, diharapkan bahwa jumlah kunjungan wisman di Februari akan meningkat tajam dan menetralisir penurunan di bulan sebelumnya.

    The Indonesian government changed the funding scheme for the construction of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Railway project (which will connect Soekarno Hatta International Airport, located nearby Jakarta, and Halim Airport in Jakarta). Previously, it was planned that this project, valued at IDR 26 trillion (USD $2.1 billion), would be offered through a public-private partnership (PPP) construction in which the Indonesian government would finance 55 percent of the costs.     The prequalification tender for the construction of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Railway project has been postponed until late October 2014 (from August) as agreements with several stakeholders still need to be finalized. For example, the government is yet to underwrite part of the required investment. Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation proposes to underwrite IDR 13.5 trillion (USD $2.3 billion) - approximately 49 percent of total required investment for this railway project.

However, the amount of daily passengers at Soetta has exceeded its capacity. Based on data from Airports Council International, released in 2013, Soetta is the world's tenth busiest airport.

    Although initially expected to start in 2015, the government announced that construction of the new Karawang airport (in West Java) may commence in 2014. The administrative process (including a spatial plan review) is near completion, thus clearing the way for the airport's groundbreaking. The Karawang International Airport, which is designed to have a passenger handling capacity of 70 million people per year, will be built on a 900 ha piece of land and is envisaged to relieve passenger and flight congestion at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
