So far, there haven't been long queues at gas stations (to hoard fuels), while government officials repeatedly ensure that there is enough fuel available for society, although people are encouraged to cut back on fuel consumption (for example, by working-from-home once a week).
The Iran War reveals the risks involved when countries are dependent on imports of energy to meet domestic demand. In the case of Indonesia, which subsidizes part of domestic energy consumption, skyrocketing crude oil prices threaten to push the government's budget deficit beyond the legal cap of 3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). An important document was released by Indonesia’s state-owned electricity firm Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) at the end of May 2025. This document is titled the Electricity Supply Business Plan (in Indonesian: Rencana Usaha Penyediaan Tenaga Listrik, RUPTL) and covers the 2025-2034 period.

Tensions in Indonesian society peaked in late August and early September 2025 as big demonstrations, fundamentally driven by deep, long-standing public frustration over economic hardship and perceived political corruption, took the streets. It was a scary period, with reportedly ten fatalities.
It is uncertain whether Indonesia can impose the B50 stage of its biodiesel program in 2026 (which would be the next step after launching the B40 stage in Q1-2025). Currently, the B50 stage is still being studied. In fact, government officials are currently discussing whether it is better to opt for a B45 stage first.
